MEN'S
GROUP - The Journey of Intimacy and Self-Mastery
There's a well known story in
Zen Buddhism:
A teacher, Dizang, asks Fayan, "Where are you going?"
Fayan replies, "Around on pilgrimage."
Dizang asks, "What is the purpose of pilgrimage?" And Fayan
says, "I don't know."
To this Dizang replies, "Not knowing is most intimate."
A new Men's Group is forming to explore Self-Intimacy as
the gateway to Self-Mastery. However, as an antidote to the
popular belief that "a male must know
who he is", this
group will investigate 'not knowing' as the skill for deeply cultivating
self-confidence and self-understanding.
Mindfulness-Meditation will be taught and emphasized
throughout the group process.

Doug Johns, LCSW has been in private therapy practice since
1998 where he teaches skills for assertive living and
decision making. A dedicated student of Zen Meditation
since 2002, Doug has a daily meditation practice through
which he practices and refines the skills he teaches. In
2008 Doug completed an intensive professional training in
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) under the
direction of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli of
the Center For Mindfulness at the University of
Massachusetts Medical School. Doug incorporates MBSR into
many of his groups. MBSR is a highly structured and
research driven approach for educating people in the use of
Mindfulness-Meditation for physical and emotional healing.
Replicated studies with MBSR have demonstrated improvement
in pain reduction, depression relapse, anxiety, and
attention problems.
